The ever changing technology in
the highway and bridge construction sector, and the federal mandate
for using skilled technicians and engineers to work on federally
funded transportation projects, have prompted the Florida
Department of Transportation to establish a rigorous training and
certification program, Construction
Training Qualification Program.
In fall of 2004, FDOT decided to diversify and decentralize the
program, and separated the administration component of the program
(i.e., exams, qualifications and database management) from its training
component. The training component of the program is being offered
to qualified providers that meet the stringent requirements of the
FDOT Technical Review Teams. The Department
of Civil and Environmental Engineering at FIU has passed the
rigorous screening and is now qualified or being considered as provider
